LALC’s were established under the Aboriginal Land Rights ACT 1983 as the elected representatives for Aboriginal people in NSW. This role extends beyond representation of the interests of Land Council members, to all Aboriginal people living in NSW. Local Aboriginal Land Councils which collectively manage the range of support services delivered at local level to their communities. These services include housing, legal affairs, employment, training and property acquisition and management.

Boonjaga Mungurra (Remember Home) Eurobodalla Aboriginal Reconnect Service provides a free, confidential and safe place for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged between 10 and 18 who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless and their families to come to when facing difficult times. Our service is available to families who are willing to work together to reduce family breakdown. We can provide support to both the young person and their family.

The Moruya Youth Refuge provides crisis accommodation and personalised support for young people aged between 15 and 17 years who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Through personalised assessment, case management and personal support our professional youth workers assist and support young people to reach their goals. Our service includes support with decision making, development of life skills, recreational activities and referrals to other services and support organisations.

The Aunties and Uncles program links community volunteers with children up to 13 years of age from families who could benefit from support. Generally the child or young person is given an opportunity to experience life with another family by spending one weekend a month with them. The program is based on the belief that giving time, friendship, care and guidance can help build a child’s self-esteem and confidence. Trained coordinators assess and screen adult volunteers and evaluate the needs of socially and emotionally disadvantage families, and link them together for ongoing support, providing children with friendship, role modelling and time out from stressful situations.

TeenSafe aims to give young people aged 15 years and over basic driving skills and experiences in a safe and controlled environment. A dedicated group of volunteers conduct TeenSafe driving courses during school holiday periods. Courses consist of 8 hours of tuition, with a maximum of 6 – 7 students and dates are set according to demand and volunteer availability.
