Schools Education

Aims:
- provide Eurobodalla schools with a portfolio of linked
environmental programs;
- establish and maintain sound working relationships with all
schools in the Eurobodalla;
- assist with on-ground activities that increase biodiversity in
school grounds and
- raise awareness of environmental issues.
Activities:
Environment Calendar
All 11 primary schools in our shire participate in making this
calendar. Students research the given subject and come up with
slogans and drawings around an environmental message. The 8,000
copies then hang in the many homes and offices of our shire and
beyond.
Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens Excursion
Every year approximately 500 Year 4 students attend the gardens
for a botany and biodiversity lesson given by Council's Environment
Education Officer. This is an accepted as part of the Stage 2
curriculum in government and non-government schools.
World Environment Day - 5th June
An expo is hosted annually by a local primary school.
Representatives from local groups interact with students who might
hold a sea urchin at the Batemans Marine Park stall; find out where
their water comes from with the Eurowater team; or pot up a
seedling with Landcare volunteers.
Batemans Marine Park excursions
These aim to give students a greater understanding of the park's
various zones, its benefits and the variety of marine species
living in their area. Students identify, describe and evaluate
interdependent relationships between living things and the
environment within particular ecosystems in the Marine Park.
Spring Water Bug Survey
By investigating the freshwater invertebrates present in local
waterways, students are exposed to hands-on activities identifying
aquatic insects. The insect number, diversity and type are seen as
good indicators of the health of our waterways.
