Beach Road upgrade to reduce traffic congestion
Thursday 9 May 2019
Work to improve road capacity and safety in Batemans Bay is expected to reduce traffic congestion and travel times.
Planning is underway to widen Beach Road between Perry Street and Orient Street, with a dedicated right-turn lane into Orient Street. From Monday 13 May Council’s construction team will begin by installing stormwater pits and pipes on the southern side of the road.
The same of stretch will receive a new footpath with landscaping and retaining wall, and will include replacing the footpath linking Beach Road to Bent Street. This work is a part of a $3 million upgrade of the Batemans Bay CBD, funded by the Australian Government’s Building Our Future program and is expected to be finished by October.
Work has also begun on a new footpath along Hill Street to provide pedestrians with a link between the northern end of Bent Street and Mackay Park. The concrete path will continue from the existing path at the McDonalds driveway entrance, replace the informal track uphill, and follow the northern side of Hill Street to connect with Bent Street.
This footpath was identified as a priority in the Eurobodalla Pathway Strategy and is funded by the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities program.
