Dog-friendly areas proposed
Wednesday 5 July 2017
Eurobodalla Council is proposing additional dog-friendly areas in Eurobodalla.
The changes were proposed by Councillors after community requests for additional dog exercise areas in northern Eurobodalla.
The proposals include creation of an on-leash recreational area at Mundarra Way, Surfside, on the reserve between the primary school and the highway, and to formalise the public reserve at the end of Tennis Court Lane, Nelligen, as a 24-hour off-leash dog area.
It is also proposed to remove the prohibition of dogs on Corrigans Beach Reserve to allow them on-leash. Dogs would still be prohibited within the fenced playground area.
Council is seeking community feedback on the three proposals by 2 August.
Council has on and off-leash and timeshare arrangements in place across the shire. The Companion Animal Management Plan 2015-2019 details these arrangements and aims to balance the needs of pet owners, the community and the environment.
In addition to the three localities now open for public feedback, Council will bring forward its review of the Companion Animal Management Plan to commence during 2017-18.
This will allow the community to have a broader discussion at that time about animal management and dog exercise areas across the whole of the Eurobodalla, ensuring that safety, consistency and community needs are considered.
All dog-friendly areas require animals to be under the care and control of a competent person at all times.
More information about the proposed dog-friendly areas at Nelligen, Surfside and Corrigans Reserve can be found online by clicking here. Hard copies are also available at Eurobodalla’s three libraries and at the Customer Service Centre in Moruya.
Submissions can be made by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, using the feedback form on Council’s website and by writing to Eurobodalla Shire Council, PO Box 99, Moruya NSW 2537.
Submissions close Wednesday 2 August 2017.
