Dog exercise area review

Project: Review of Council’s Companion Animal Management Plan 2015-19

In response to community interest, Council is reviewing its Companion Animal Management Plan 2015-19, which details on and off-leash, timeshare and prohibited dog arrangements across Eurobodalla.

For the past few months we’ve been working behind the scenes with a group of experts and community representatives on the review. Council is now seeking the wider community’s feedback on proposed changes to Eurobodalla dog exercise areas and invites residents to have their say.

What is proposed

Council has developed new maps for Council-managed beaches, and some reserves, depicting dog exercise and prohibited dog areas to make it easy for residents to see what is proposed. The changes aim to reduce confusing timeshare arrangements where possible and balance the provision of off-leash and prohibited dog areas.

The maps also introduce a simple colour-coded traffic light system that has been adopted successfully by Wollongong and Shoalhaven City Councils.

In addition to the new maps, Council is also interested in residents’ thoughts on how responsible pet ownership can be improved, including environmentally-responsible ways of managing dog faeces.

These proposed changes have not been adopted by Council, this is the first of two opportunities to give your feedback about what you do and don’t agree with.

Your feedback from this survey will help us refine the proposed changes based on the wider community’s needs.

Following the survey period, we will incorporate the community’s feedback to refine these proposed changes and draft Companion Animal Management Plan. These refined drafts will be presented to Council to consider for public exhibition, at which point we will again seek the community’s feedback before any changes are adopted and implemented.

How to have your say

We will be holding drop-in sessions throughout April where people can view the dog exercise area maps and provide their feedback. Dates, locations and times are below.

Residents can also complete an online survey during April, fill in our online feedback form, or simply write us a letter or email detailing their thoughts.
