Draft Companion Animal Management Plan 2018 and Dog Exercise Areas

Closing date for submissions: Tuesday 4 September 2018

Council is reviewing its Companion Animal Management Plan, which details on and off-leash, timeshare and prohibited dog arrangements across Eurobodalla Shire.

The aim of the draft plan is to balance community amenity, animal welfare and environmental management, while promoting the benefits of responsible pet ownership, consistent with the requirements of the Companion Animals Act 1998.

The Companion Animals Management Plan 2015-19 was due for review in 2018-19. At the 27 June 2017 Council Meeting, Council resolved to bring the review forward following requests from residents about dog recreational areas across Eurobodalla.

In April 2018, proposed changes to dog exercise areas were presented to the community and feedback was sought through an online survey and 12 drop-in sessions across Eurobodalla. Written feedback was also received. Council further refined the draft dog exercise areas based on the feedback and suggestions received.

A summary of the feedback received from the community, along with refined draft dog exercise areas, was presented to Council at its Ordinary Meeting on 31 July, 2018.

Councillors endorsed the material to be placed on public exhibition for further community comment.
