Kianga shared path to be ready in time for Christmas
A partnership between Eurobodalla Shire Council and the local
community is seeing the shared pathway link between Dalmeny and
Kianga rapidly becoming a reality.
A key element in completing this link is a new bridge over
Kianga Creek to create a shared pathway separate to the roadway
bridge and Council is working to complete this in time for
Christmas.
Council's Director for Roads and Recreation, Warren Sharpe, says
there has been many challenges along the way, including securing
funding and getting the necessary environmental approvals, but work
on the new bridge will begin later this week, and progress in two
stages.
"In early November, the installation of timber piles will be
undertaken by the specialist civil engineering contractor, Wellco
Developments Pty Ltd of Wandandian. Then Council's bridge crew will
begin work fixing the timber bracing, installing girders, decking
and handrailing," Mr Sharpe said.
He says minor modifications will also be made to the existing
shared path to connect either end with the new bridge, which when
finished will look similar to the Mill Bay boardwalk structure.
"It is really exciting to see this link becoming a reality," Mr
Sharpe said. "The partnership with the community volunteers
continues to achieve amazing things and we can't wait to see the
two villages joined up."
