Threatened Species and Endangered Ecological Communities of the Eurobodalla

The Eurobodalla region is home to many threatened species and endangered ecological communities. Eurbodalla Shire Council is working with other agencies and the community to reduce the pressures and threats that impact negatively on them. This includes work to improve the condition and increase the extent of threatened species habitat and endangered communities where possible. This page provides you with more information about the species and communities found across the region.

In NSW, a threatened species is a plant or animal species that is listed under the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995, or the NSW Fisheries Management Act 1994. Some species may also be listed nationally by the Australian Government under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (the EPBC Act). Listed threatened species are divided into a number of categories, depending on the extent to which they are threatened.

To find out about NSW listed threatened species likely to be found in the Eurobodalla region see the NSW Department of Environment and Conservation’s Threatened Species website. To find out about local species listed nationally under the EPBC Act use the Australian Government’s EPBC Act Protected Matters Search Tool. Council may also be able to provide you with further information about threatened species likely to occur in your area.

Endangered Ecological Communities of the Eurobodalla region

Endangered ecological communities are plant communities under threat from a range of activities. Endangered ecological communities are listed in the same way as threatened species, and are often referred to as EEC’s. There are 12 endangered ecological communities that can be found in the Eurobodalla Shire region. Fact Sheets about most of these communities can be downloaded below. Some of them cover more than one EEC. A number of others provide management information. Hard copies can be ordered from Council on request. A report that provides more comprehensive information about the recognition and management of EEC's found in the southern NSW coastal region is also available as a download.
