This section describes how we safeguard the privacy of our customers on-line and throughout our businesses.

We Respect Your Privacy
Eurobodalla Shire Council recognizes and respects your expectations of privacy. We will take the necessary steps to insure that information you share with us remains confidential.

Why We Collect, Retain and Use Customer Information
We collect, retain and use information when we reasonably believe it would be useful in providing products, services and other opportunities to you or to better understand your financial needs. Certain information we collect to comply with laws and regulations. Whenever we collect information, we will gladly share the reasons with you upon request.

How We Maintain the Accuracy of Customer Information
We have established procedures to maintain the accuracy of our customers' information. We will also respond to your requests to correct inaccurate information in a timely manner.

Limiting Employee Access to Customer Information
We have procedures in place to limit access to your personal information to those employees with a business reason for knowing such information. We educate our employees about the importance of confidentiality and customer privacy. We also take appropriate disciplinary measures to enforce our confidentiality and privacy policies.

Maintaining Security to Protect Customer Information
We maintain appropriate security standards and procedures to help prevent access to your confidential information by anyone not authorized to access such information. Examples of these security procedures include use of computer passwords, firewalls, network security, locked fireproof file cabinets, shredding of unnecessary documents, and more.

Disclosure of Information to Parties Outside of Eurobodalla Shire Council
We do not reveal information about you or your accounts to parties outside the Council for their independent use unless 1) you authorize us to do so; 2) the information is provided to help complete a transaction initiated by you; 3) the disclosure is required or allowed by law.

Maintaining Your Privacy in Business Relationships with Third Parties
Sometimes it is necessary to provide information about you or your accounts, property and complaints to a vendor or service company that we hire to help us provide services to you. We require that these vendors and service companies maintain the confidentiality of this information and abide by all applicable laws. We do not permit third parties to sell or reuse the information for their own purposes.

Legal Framework on how we Treat Private Information
At the Ordinary Meeting of Council held on Tuesday 27 June 2000, Council adopted the Interim Eurobodalla Shire Council Privacy Management Plan (Minute No 206 / A7). This plan has been prepared in accordance with Section 33 of the PPIP Act. It addresses Council's proceedures and practices in relation to the ways in which it collects, stores and uses personal information.

Online Privacy
When you visit our web site, we apply the same standards for confidentiality and privacy that we do when you visit our offices. We may ask you for information to help us serve you or to better understand who is visiting our web site. This information will only be used by us for legitimate business purposes.
