Road rule reminder – vehicle passing a bicycle rider

When passing a bicycle rider all drivers and motorcycle riders must leave a distance of at least:

  • 1 metre when the speed limit is 60km/h or less
  • 1.5 metres in higher speed zones.

The rule is designed to reduce the chance of a crash when a vehicle passes a bicycle rider.

Drivers who do not comply with the rule may receive a $330 fine and two demerit points.
