Submission to the IPART Draft Report on Local Government Compliance and Enforcement

In June 2014, the NSW Government has asked the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) to examine local government compliance and enforcement activity and provide recommendations that will reduce unnecessary regulatory burdens for business and the community.

The inquiry focuses on local councils' enforcement activities in areas such as:

  • planning
  • building
  • environment
  • health
  • parking
  • transport
  • companion animals.

IPART prepared draft recommendations to provide red tape savings to business and the community. The report considers ways to improve the capacity and capability of councils, and the quality of regulatory administration .

Council's response

In July 2014, we submitted our responses to the recommendations in the draft report.

Outcome and more information

The final report for this inquiry was delivered to the NSW Government in October 2014 but it has not been released.
