Eurobodalla Council will provide logistical support to the Southern NSW Local Health District in the fight against Covid-19.

With 15 active cases in Batemans Bay and one in Narooma, authorities have suggested numbers in the shire were likely to climb.

General Manager Dr Catherine Dale said Council would support the Local Health District with transport and storage, and more if needed.

“From Monday, our Community Services team will relieve clinical staff of the task of transporting essential care packages, including food and prescriptions, to Covid-impacted households,” she said.

“Our people are trained and trusted in the community, and it allows those clinical staff to be where they’re most needed, providing healthcare.

“We’re also opening up one of our larger facilities in Batemans Bay for NSW Health to store those supplies.”

“We have a number of staff on standby to assist with contact tracing if required, and we’re cooperating with NSW Health to extend sewerage detection beyond Batemans Bay, Moruya and Narooma to include all the shire’s treatment plants at Tomakin, Tuross Head and Bodalla.”

Dr Dale said the Local Health District were organised and well-prepared, working in partnership with health services and not-for-profit organisations, and Council was pleased to be able to contribute to the public health effort.

“We’ll continue our regular communication with the Local Health District and the regional emergency management office to identify any other ways we can provide support,” she said.

“I encourage Eurobodalla citizens to follow the health orders and get vaccinated if they can. Let’s contain these cases so we can begin to enjoy our freedoms once more and see the shire’s businesses open up.”

Eurobodalla Shire remains in lockdown with almost 30 local government areas across NSW. The shire’s vaccination rate has hit more than 85 per cent for first dose, among the highest in the state.
