Delays, smoke on George Bass Drive on Wednesday

Published: 13 April 2021

Motorists on George Bass Drive at Lilli Pilli could experience delays of up to 10 minutes while trees are removed as part of a project to realign a section of the road on Wednesday.

Eurobodalla Council is upgrading the notorious bends at Grandfathers Gully on George Bass Drive, between Surf Beach and Lilli Pilli to improve road safety and reduce road related trauma. The trees will be removed as part of the preliminary works, with traffic control in place.

Residents might also notice smoke in the area as Council burns the stumps from the removed trees. Burning will be conducted in accordance with an RFS permit and may continue into the night.

As part of the project, revegetation works are planned to offset the necessary tree clearing once the new road is established.

Motorists should slow down in the area and follow traffic control directives.

Other works are being undertaken in the gully area off the roadway. Motorists should take care and remain alert to trucks and other vehicles entering and leaving the worksite.
