School readiness information sessions

Published: 27 April 2021

Information sessions to help parents give their preschool-aged children the best possible start at kindergarten next year will be held this week in Batemans Bay, Moruya and Narooma.

Guest speakers will include a kindergarten teacher, occupational therapist and transition to school educator, who will talk about the skills children need to start kindergarten and how families can help their child prepare.

Eurobodalla Council’s transition to school educator Jenny Hogg said families could also pick up a free transition to school kit, packed full of resources and activities that encourage children to learn as they play.

“As they play with the different activities in the kit they will practise the many skills needed to be ready for school - things like focusing on an activity, taking turns, writing their name, counting, talking and listening, working with others and feeling confident,” she said.

“There’s things like bubbles, tools for exploring science play, a board game, activities to practise scissor skills and daily challenge cards – all designed for you to have fun with your child as they learn.”

The school readiness information sessions will be held from 6pm to 7pm on Tuesday 27 April at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club, Wednesday 28 April at Club Narooma, and Thursday 29 April at Moruya Golf Club

Those who can’t make it on the night can register their interest in receiving a kit by emailing Childrens Services.
