Verge garden pilot program

Verge gardens create greener spaces which improve our streets’ amenity and access to outdoor recreation. Verge gardens can include vegetables or fruit, shady trees, flowers, grasses and shrubs.

Our Verge Garden Program helps local residents develop garden designs, provides plants and assists with planting gardens on verges.

Verge gardens have the potential to improve quality of life by offering potential social and health benefits by interacting with neighbours, natural cooling through shading and sun protection, habitat for local wildlife, and they help remove carbon from the atmosphere.

Four participating streets

The expression of interest period has closed. We received a lot of interest and enthusiasm from community members who registered their streets' interest.

We nominated four streets to participate in this pilot and we will continue working with the residents during the year. The streets are in Long Beach, Lilli Pilli and Broulee.

Thanks to grant funding from the NSW Government's Stronger Communities Program, there is no cost for residents to get involved.

The pilot program provided important information that will help us finalise the verge garden guidelines. These guidelines will detail clear advice for people that want to create a verge garden on their nature strip in the future.
