Eurobodalla’s 2025 Local Hero Announced
Media release published: 20 November 2025
In front of a packed Yuin Theatre at the Bay Pavilion last Saturday night, the Local Hero Award for 2025 was presented to Lorraine Borger from Moruya.
Ms. Borger has dedicated her life to her community, volunteering for a variety of local groups, sporting clubs, and schools.
A passionate advocate for children’s development, Lorraine has volunteered in schools, supported literacy programs and taught generations of Eurobodallans to swim.
“Lorraine’s compassion and tireless dedication to helping her town makes her a Moruya treasure,” said Mayor Mathew Hatcher.
The other outstanding nominees for Eurobodalla’s 2025 Local Hero included Pat Anderson, Sarah O'Reilly, Alex Rea, and Jane Taylor.
Ms. Borger received her award at the Mayor’s Charity Ball; an annual event created by Mayor Mathew Hatcher in 2023 to celebrate and support volunteers across the shire.
This year, Mayor Hatcher chose Eurobodalla’s four surf lifesaving clubs - Batemans Bay, Broulee, Moruya and Narooma – to be the recipients of funds raised on the night.
“We’re proud to be supporting the hundreds of volunteers who keep our beaches safe and help make our shire what it is,” Mayor Hatcher said.
A total of $17,396 was raised on the night, which means $4,349 went to each of the surf lifesaving club.
