Mayor ready to celebrate shire’s young authors

Published: 26 June 2023

It’s that time of year where Eurobodalla’s young authors are put in the spotlight and celebrated – the 2023 Mayor’s Writing Competition entries are now open.

Mayor Mathew Hatcher says it’s time to start writing and encourages young authors between the ages of five and 18 to submit an original work.

Mayor Hatcher said this year’s competition theme is Change.

“I chose Change, because we’ve all seen so much change in our lives over the past few years,” Mayor Hatcher said.

“The theme can be incorporated into any style of writing, from an essay to a poem or creative short story.

“I was amazed by the talent and creativity last year and can’t wait to see what students come up with.”

The overall winner will receive The Syd Hayes Creative Writing Award, a handcrafted pen by local artist Richard Turvey and the Mayor’s Writing Competition perpetual shield to display at their school.

Prizes include book vouchers, family passes to Mogo Wildlife Park and stationery. All finalists will also receive a copy of the Mayor’s Writing Competition Anthology 2023.

Competition entries close on Friday 25 August. For details on how to enter visit the Mayor's Writing Competition web page or pop into one of the shire’s libraries for writing tips and information.
