Mobility mats

Mats are available at seven of the shire’s patrolled beaches for summer school holidays: Surf Beach, Malua Bay, South Broulee, Moruya South Head, Tuross Main, Dalmeny, and Narooma Surf Beach. These mats create a stable surface for people with reduced mobility to move across the sand.

Mobility mats are placed on patrolled beaches during patrol hours. See the Surf Life Saving Club section on this page for contact details.

Borrow a beach wheelchair

Beach wheelchairs make our beaches more accessible. They are designed for pushing across sand and floating in calm waters. The wheechairs are available at six beach locations across the shire at no cost. The beach wheelchairs users will need the assistance of a carer.

Corrigans Beach, Batehaven

Local charity The Bay Push provided one child-sized and one adult-sized water wheelchair free for public use at Corrigans Beach, Batehaven.

Bar Beach is one of Narooma’s favourite swimming spots. During the warmer months, we install a shark net to help reduce the likelihood of shark interactions with swimmers.

The net is generally in place from September to May and is removed during the cooler months for cleaning and repairs.

Shark nets can reduce risk but do not remove it completely as sharks can enter the area by swimming above or below the net. They do not create shark-proof enclosures and should not be confused with shark barriers, which extend from the seabed to the surface.

Installing a shark barrier at Bar Beach is not a feasible alternative due to local conditions and environmental approval considerations.

For a more enclosed swimming option, head to the other side of Wagonga Inlet, between Ken Rose Park and the Narooma Swimming Centre. A jetty and floating pontoon in a large, deep-water area contained by a rock wall make this a great place for a swim.
