Marine Infrastructure Advisory Committee

The Marine Infrastructure Advisory Committee will provide advice and recommendations to Council on Council-controlled marine infrastructure across the Eurobodalla.

The Committee will help Council understand community needs, review priorities and identify opportunities to improve marine facilities for boating, fishing and other water-based activities.

By bringing together local knowledge, user experience and Council planning, the Committee will support safe, accessible and well-maintained marine infrastructure that benefits residents, visitors and other marine users.

Objectives

The Committee will serve as a strategic, community-led advisory body that works in partnership with Council to:

  • promote effective consultation and communication between Council, Councillors, all government bodies and the shire's marine users (boating and fishing communities)
  • promote and advertise the shire’s marine infrastructure to attract increased usage, events and recognition to the overall benefit of the community
  • advise on Council’s strategic priorities regarding the installation, improvement and maintenance of marine infrastructure through the shire
  • promote safe boating and fishing for all participants and to advise on programs (such as the life rings for rock platforms) to enhance this
  • advise on opportunities for children and people with a disability to participate in water-based activities.

Terms of reference

The Committee will be guided by documents that explain its role, how members are appointed and how meetings are run.

Meetings

The Committee will meet four times a year at Council's Customer Service Centre in Moruya.

Members

The Committee will include:

  • up to 10 community representatives with an active connection to the Eurobodalla community and current knowledge, skills or involvement in the marine environment, either professionally or through community-based organisations
  • one Councillor as Chair, plus one designated alternate Councillor, selected by Council.

The Committee can also invite participants to provide technical advice and guidance when needed. These participants do not have voting rights and may include:

  • Council staff
  • representatives from other agencies.
