A sunny day greeted 290 volunteers who gathered across Eurobodalla for Clean Up Australia Day.

Eurobodalla Clean Up coordinator Maree Cadman said numbers were up on recent years, reflecting the national trend.

“It was great to see so many people out and giving it a crack,” Ms Cadman said.

“Over 130 full bags of rubbish were collected, with a further 30 cubic metres of illegally disposed hard-waste lugged out of bushland.”

Eurobodalla resident Sue Murray said volunteers worked tirelessly.

“They removed everything from sodden nappies and clothing, to aluminium drink cans and dumped building materials, whitegoods and e-waste,” Ms Murray said.

Ms Cadman reminded residents much of this rubbish could be disposed of for free during Eurobodalla’s annual kerbside collection or at the shire’s waste facilities.

“Cigarette butts were high on the items-collected scorecard, with two volunteers from Tomakin collecting more than 160 from a single local carpark,” Ms Cadman said.

“Thanks must also go to our local Clean Up Australia Day sponsors: Batemans Bay Soldiers Club, Starfish Deli, Club Malua, Mogo Wildlife Park, Tomakin Sports and Social Club, Southlands, Narooma Sporting and Services Club and Cleanaway.”
