Residents can get rid of unwanted chemicals for free at Eurobodalla Council’s annual Household Chemical Cleanout in October.

The annual collection enables residents to drop pesticides, gas bottles, paints, varnishes and other hard-to-dispose-of chemicals at designated drop-off points in Moruya, Narooma and Batemans Bay.

Eurobodalla Council’s waste services manager Nathan Ladmore said now was the time for residents to clear out their sheds, garages, and kitchen sink cupboards and gather up those chemicals they no longer need.

“Many common household chemicals can cause harm to people and the environment if they’re not disposed of properly. The Household Chemical Cleanout drop off means they will be disposed of safely,” Mr Ladmore said.

Items accepted include paints, fungicides, household batteries, oxidisers, weed killers, household cleaners, fuel, compact fluorescent light globes, oils, syringes, poisons, acids and alkalis, pool chemicals, gas cylinders, medicines, fertilisers and smoke detectors.

However, asbestos, explosives, clinical waste and radioactive materials will not be accepted.

This year’s Household Chemical Cleanout drop-off points will be:

• Gundary Oval car park, Campbell Street, Moruya, on Saturday 7 October, 9am-4pm
• Narooma Library car park, Graham Street, Narooma, on Sunday 8 October, 9am-4pm
• Hanging Rock Boat Ramp, Hanging Rock Place, Batemans Bay, on Sunday 8 October, 9am-4pm.
