Turning up the heat with winter author talks
Published: 4 June 2025
Eurobodalla Libraries have a bang-on season of author talks for June and July, with page-turning crime, curious kids’ tales and a rethink on the land beneath our feet. Libraries coordinator Samantha Fenton says winter is looking lively with new books, big ideas and even a body on a turbine.
“If anybody can make a dead body hanging from a wind turbine compelling, it’s Margaret Hickey,” says Ms Fenton of the former playwright turned crime queen.
“She’s built a cult following with eerily familiar small-town settings and lurking menace. Her latest, An Ill Wind, sees the return of Detective Sergeant Mark Ariti in a murder mystery powered by renewables and riddled with secrets.”
Ms Fenton says Miles Franklin winner Sofie Laguna writes across genres and reading ages.
“She’ll be talking about her new book for young readers, The Last Egg, and her fifth adult novel, The Underworld. They are two more books proving her remarkable grasp of the human condition deftly mapped for the smallest readers through to the most seasoned.”
Also visiting Eurobodalla Libraries is farmer and storyteller Joshua Gilbert.
“The Worimi author is rewriting the story of land – and who gets to tell it,” Ms Fenton says.
“His Australia’s Agricultural Identity – An Aboriginal Yarn is a blend of family history and Indigenous knowledge, with a fresh take on farming that’s deeply rooted. There’s warmth, there’s insight, and there’s likely some telling truth bombs along the way.
“I’m excited to see this roster of accomplished authors visiting Eurobodalla. Attendees can expect sharp minds, lively chats, and a cuppa and a biscuit or two,” says Ms Fenton.
