DV Safe Phone collection point now at Council

Published: 18 July 2025

For domestic and family violence victims, a safe phone is a powerful tool, amplifying their voices and empowering them to feel safe and stay connected.

DV Safe Phones is a program committed to ensuring that every voice from every background is heard and supported. Because every call for help should be heard.

Chairperson of Council’s Women in Local Government Alliance Kim Bush invites the community and businesses to join in and recycle old phones to support those in need to access a safe phone to stay connected without fear of being monitored or tracked.

“We found out about this program and wanted to help people in our shire to be able to access this support. We also noted there were no areas on the south coast as collection points so we registered to be one” she said.

“This also means that our local services supporting those being impacted can apply for and distribute phones to those who need them.”

Council will also be recycling their mobile phones through this program which means they will not only now serve a great purpose and importantly no longer go into land fill.

Anyone with a phone they no longer need can drop it off at Council offices in Moruya in the collection box. Council will send them off to DV Safe phones where they will be ‘sanitised’ and made good for those being impacted by domestic violence.

You can make a difference by joining Council and supporting DV Safe phones. By collecting and donating phones, you’ll ensure lives can continue to be changed.

Join the mission to break the cycle of violence and create a future where everyone is safe and valued.
