‘Southern Dam’ - wall well on the way
Published: 5 June 2025
Work continues on Eurobodalla’s southern water supply storage – a 3,000 megalitre off-river dam west of Bodalla.
Rather than a traditional dam, the southern water storage takes the form of a 39-metre-high and 370-metre-long embankment on an unnamed tributary of the Tuross River. During periods of high flow, water will be pumped from the Tuross to the storage and water treatment plant.
The southern storage facility complements Eurobodalla Council’s Deep Creek Dam northern storage and water treatment plant near Batemans Bay, providing drought security and bushfire resilience, increased capacity for peak holiday water demand, and predicted population growth.
Most of the southern storage components are complete, with the dam wall – currently three-quarters finished – the focus of remaining work. Council expects the wall to be complete in August, with truck movements in the area of Nerrigundah Mountain Road until that time.
Once the wall is complete, the roads servicing the site will be finalised, equipment tested, and rehabilitation and revegetation work will restore the natural environment and reduce sediment run ff. Pumping into the storage can begins as rainfall and river flow allows.
