More free help to clean up bushfire-impacted properties is available to Eurobodalla residents over the coming weeks.

Disaster Relief Australia, comprising volunteer teams of ex-military and emergency responders, will be assisting those in need for the next five weeks, four days each week.

The help was arranged and funded by Eurobodalla Council’s Eurobodalla Bushfire Recovery Support Service in response to their clients' growing need.

Recovery support service coordinator Jane Robertson said DRA’s presence had already made “a huge positive impact” to those affected.

"The initial clean-up by Laing O'Rourke and Public Works was vital and extremely helpful, but 12 months on, many residents are finding they need trees felled and stockpiled, fence lines cleared for new fencing, and burnt materials removed,” she said.

“DRA have generously put up their hand and have already begun conducting damage assessments for the more than 100 requests for assistance.

“It’s making a big difference to people's feeling of wellbeing and control knowing they can now make repairs and improvements to their property.”

DRA chief executive officer Geoff Evans said their work would include chainsaw operations, debris management and removal, fencing and small civil works.

”2020 was a challenging year, 2021 is about rebuilding and DRA is keen to get back into communities still recovering from the Black Summer bushfires to assist in any way we can,” he said.

“We’re extremely proud of being offered the opportunity to collaborate with Council working together to rebuild and support the local community in their time of need.”

Community members needing assistance can contact the Eurobodalla Bushfire Recovery Support Service on 4474 7434. Once contact is made DRA will conduct a damage assessment to confirm how they can assist.
