Project details
The new strategy will set a clear vision for waste and resource recovery in Eurobodalla.
We are working to:
- reduce waste: avoid, reduce, and increase recycling
- recover resources with an emphasis on reuse and circular economy by encouraging community ownership of waste
- work towards meeting government targets and finding local and regional solutions to protect and enhance the environment
- collaborate and engage with the community, including, but not exclusive to Aboriginal, youth, industry, and environmental groups.
In our strategy, we will also consider:
- strategic planning for future waste and resource recovery infrastructure needs
- procurement actions to support a circular economy
- climate change adaptation and resilience, including disaster planning, emissions reduction, and low carbon economies
- managing plastic waste and pollution
- managing litter and illegal dumping
- waste education
- excellence in service provision.
Benefits to the community:
- deliver reliable, consistent waste services for the community
- educate the community on waste and resource management
- improve waste management practices to deliver a more efficient service to the community
- ensure that we can provide sufficient waste management resources to service Eurobodalla's future population.
Background
Eurobodalla's ten-year Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy aims to secure the best possible resource recovery and waste management solutions for our community and the environment, now and in the future.
Our vision is to:
- facilitate sustainable waste services
- support our community to own the waste they generate using avoidance, reuse and recycling practices
- embrace local solutions to help the circular economy and protect our beautiful environment.
We will achieve this by:
- engaging with our community
- encouraging a waste-wise community
- collaborating on local waste recovery initiatives
- advocating for effective government legislation.
Community engagement
Feedback helps us to produce a research brief and an outline for the strategy. It provides clarity on stakeholder opinions and views on Eurobodalla’s waste services.
We will:
- develop a community engagement plan to connect with stakeholders including residents, relevant committees and groups, industry and business, community organisations, service providers and Council.
- seek to understand community concerns, priorities, aspirations, focus areas, and future opportunities for waste and resource management for inclusion in the strategy.
We:
- held two stakeholder meetings in June and July 2024 incorporating external and internal stakeholders
- developed the structure of the strategy
- designed surveys for the community to participate
- placed the draft strategy on public exhibition for community feedback during August 2025
- during the public exhibition, we hosted pop-up sessions at local markets for community members to talk about and give feedback on the draft strategy.
