Moruya Riverside Park improvements

Project: Improve and upgrade the picnic facilities and the flying fox.

Project details

We are working to:

  • replace the existing flying fox and associated timber structure and install a new flying fox in the playground
  • install safety fencing along the extent of the playground adjoining Ford Street and the Riverside Park car park
  • relocate some existing seating (if necessary)
  • install two new covered picnic settings and BBQs in the park.

Benefits to the community:

  • the popular flying fox facility will be upgraded to increase safety
  • new covered seating and BBQ facilities will better accommodate the park's growing number of visitors.

Background and purpose

Following a recent routine inspection, it was recommended that the existing flying fox and associated structure be replaced for safety reasons.

Riverside Park has previously been identified as requiring additional public seating options and BBQ facilities due to the popularity and high usage of the park. As part of the improvement to the park, new covered picnic settings and BBQ facilities will also be installed.

Project updates

August 2026

  • Council’s outdoor teams have:
    • installed a new flying fox in the playground
    • installed safety fencing around the playground next to Ford Street and the Riverside Park car park
    • relocated some existing seating.
  • We are working through the necessary approvals and consulting with key stakeholders so we can install two new covered picnic settings and BBQs in the park later this year.

January 2026

  • we have replaced the flying fox and installed safety fencing.
  • we plan to have the two new covered picnic settings and BBQs installed prior to 30 June 2026.
