  • include islands and paths within the roundabout to assist pedestrians and cyclists crossing the roads
  • install kerb and gutter and stormwater drainage
  • improve lighting of the intersection.

Benefits to the community:

  • improved road safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians
  • improved efficiency and accessibility for the transport network.

Environmental impacts:

We’ve prepared a Review of Environmental Factors to assess potential impacts related to the project's activities.

Plans:

We have prepared a plan for the roundabout.

Project updates

2026

  • We built a shared path heading north on George Bass Drive to make it easier to walk and ride. The parking area was adjusted to make room for the path.

2025

  • The linemarking was applied in November and work continued on the finishing touches until Christmas.
  • We updated our plans and will also upgrade the footpath outside 532–534 George Bass Drive to a shared path. This new section will connect directly to the existing shared path, improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • The third and final layer of asphalt was laid in October.
  • In September, the roundabout took shape as the annulus was constructed and the first two layers of asphalt were laid.
  • Construction activities ramped up in August and traffic controllers managed traffic flow through the site.
  • The plans and assessments were finalised, ready to begin on-site work in mid-July.
  • We adjusted our plans to ensure no net loss of parking spaces.
  • Preparations began for relocating underground services to make way for the roundabout.

2024

  • We started preliminary work for the roundabout in December. This included upgrading the service lane along George Bass Drive.
  • Our design team worked on the detailed plan for the intersection.
  • We engaged specialist contractors to work on the design for the lighting and service relocations.
  • We began initial environmental and heritage assessments of the site.

2023

  • We were awarded funding for the project under the Fixing Country Roads program in October.
