It’s all systems go on site, and the new roundabout has taken shape! Traffic controllers are on hand to help guide vehicles safely through the area. If you're driving through, please allow a little extra time and take care on the road.

Project details

We are working to:

  • design and build a four-leg roundabout at the intersection of George Bass Drive, Sylvan Street and Kuppa Avenue
  • include islands and paths within the roundabout to assist pedestrians and cyclists crossing the roads
  • install kerb and gutter and stormwater drainage
  • improve lighting of the intersection.

  • improved road safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians
  • improved efficiency and accessibility for the transport network.

Environmental impacts:

We’ve prepared a Review of Environmental Factors to assess potential impacts related to the project's activities.

Plans:

We have prepared a plan for the roundabout.

Project updates

2025

  • In September, the roundabout took shape as the annulus was constructed.
  • Construction activities ramped up in August and traffic controllers managed traffic flow through the site.
  • The plans and assessments were finalised, ready to begin on-site work in mid-July.
  • We adjusted our plans to ensure no net loss of parking spaces.
  • Preparations began for relocating underground services to make way for the roundabout.

2024

  • We started preliminary work for the roundabout in December. This included upgrading the service lane along George Bass Drive.
  • Our design team worked on the detailed plan for the intersection.
  • We engaged specialist contractors to work on the design for the lighting and service relocations.
  • We began initial environmental and heritage assessments of the site.

2023

  • We were awarded funding for the project under the Fixing Country Roads program in October.
