We’ve almost finished the Broulee roundabout and the upgrade to Broulee Road. It won’t be long until Broulee Road reopens and the roundabout is fully operational. Transport for NSW have set new speed limits so keep an eye out for new speed signs.

Project details

We are working to:

  • design and build a four-leg roundabout at the intersection of George Bass Drive and Broulee Road
  • include islands and paths within the roundabout to assist pedestrians and cyclists crossing the roads
  • replace a water main and relocate other underground services such as Telstra
  • upgrade lighting of the intersection.

In conjunction with this project, we will also upgrade a section of Broulee Road to the west, ensuring it seamlessly connects with the new roundabout.

Benefits to the community:

  • improved road safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians
  • improved traffic flow.

We're building a roundabout at this intersection to improve safety and traffic flow. With more cars on the road and a history of serious crashes here, the roundabout will help keep everyone moving smoothly and safely.

Environmental impacts:

We’ve prepared a Review of Environmental Factors to assess potential impacts related to the project's activities.

Project updates

2025

  • As part of this project, Transport for NSW has updated the permanent speed limits in the area. The speed limit has been reduced from 100 km/h to 80 km/h for the first 250 metres heading west on Broulee Road and south on George Bass Drive from the roundabout. These limits will be in place when the roadwork speed limits are removed.
  • In June, our crews focused on upgrading Broulee Road - lifting and widening the road and laying a new surface.
  • In May, the roundabout was opened to traffic, including the Broulee Road entrance to the village. The western side of the intersection was closed to allow construction on the other side of the roundabout and an upgrade to the first 450 metres of Broulee Road.
  • In March, the Broulee Road entrance to the village was closed to allow construction work to be undertaken safely and efficiently, while maintaining traffic flow along George Bass Drive.
  • Work resumed on-site in February, with the construction of the roundabout underway.

2024

  • We finished the preparation work in December and plan to start building the roundabout after the school holidays, in February 2025.
  • We started preparing the site by moving services including Telstra cables and water pipes.
  • Our design team worked on the detailed design for the intersection.
  • We conducted initial checks at the site to assess environmental and heritage factors.

2023

  • We were awarded funding for the project under the Australian Government Black Spot Program in September.
