Tune into free accredited training for youth

Published: 15 March 2021

Eurobodalla’s young folk can kickstart their career in events, youth work or hospitality with free accredited training that includes work experience at a major music event.

Tune into Training’, an initiative of Eurobodalla Council’s Employment Revolution, offers three days of nationally-recognised hospitality/events training in the April school holidays.

Participants will put their new skills into practice volunteering at the Currents live music event, headlined by Thunder Fox and The Sprindrift Saga, during Youth Week in April.

There are 10 training places available for local school students aged 16-18 and five places for those aged 18-24 and/or people currently unemployed.

Employment Revolution coordinator Rhonnie South encouraged interested people to get in touch.

“This is the first vocational training initiative funded by the Department for Education for school aged students in our region and is a unique opportunity for school students and school leavers to get free vocational training in a niche industry,” she said.

“The skills they’ll learn will be transferable to other industries – things like workplace health and safety, working with customers and general event management.

“Last year 97 per cent of young people and services we surveyed said they wanted to volunteer, and 62 per cent said they were willing to be trained to become a volunteer.

“The community has asked for it so we’d love to see our local youth get on board and take advantage of this unique initiative.”

Tune into Training is funded by the NSW Department of Education’s Regional Industry Education Partnerships and delivered collaboratively by Eurobodalla Council, TAFE NSW, the Workers with Youth Network, Skills Brokers, Skillsroad.

Skillsroad will hold a Career Campsite stall at Currents, providing music industry information and career planning guidance.
