Nominating an item or area for heritage listing

If you have an item, place or area in mind, you can nominate the item for Council and its Heritage Advisory Committee to consider listing on the NSW Heritage Inventory.

Assessment criteria

To be assessed for listing on the Heritage Inventory an item will meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • an item is important in the course, or pattern, of the Eurobodalla’s cultural or natural history
  • an item has strong or special association with the life or works of a person, or group of persons, of importance in the Eurobodalla’s cultural or natural history
  • an item is important in demonstrating aesthetic characteristics and/or a high degree of creative or technical achievement in the Eurobodalla
  • an item has strong or special association with a particular community or cultural group in the Eurobodalla for social, cultural or spiritual reasons
  • an item has potential to yield information that will contribute to an understanding of the Eurobodalla’s cultural or natural history
  • an item possesses uncommon, rare or endangered aspects of the Eurobodalla’s cultural or natural history
  • an item is important in demonstrating the principal characteristics of a class of the Eurobodalla’s
    • cultural or natural places
    • cultural or natural environments.

Note: An item is not to be excluded from the heritage inventory on the ground that items with similar characteristics have already been listed on the inventory.

How to nominate an item, place or area

To nominate an item place or area for heritage listing, download and complete the Heritage nomination form and send your completed form to us.

This form asks you to explain what is significant about the item, place or area by:

  • identifying precisely what it is you want to protect, including the item’s curtilage and its real property description. You can attach a location plan or site plan if relevant
  • gathering as much documentary and physical evidence about the item as possible
  • summarising why you think the item is important, including whether it is significant under a historical, aesthetic, technical/research or social context, and within a local, regional or state context
  • summarising the physical condition of the item. You can include photographs if possible.
  • completing the other parts of the inventory form as best you can
  • summarising your reasons for requiring protection of the item and include them in the cover letter.
